The promise of God’s peace -
The Lord’s peace is intended to benefit all of mankind; and for the fruitful Christian, it is a major component of a his life in God. But in reality, most people experience very little of the abiding peace of God because they fail to understand that the promises of God are always conditional, they require us to do something before we receive His promised blessing.
To receive the promise of peace, you must follow Jesus instructions, “Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”
The word “heart” is the Greek #2588 “kardia” which the Vine’s Dictionary defines as man’s entire mental and moral activity, both the rational and the emotional elements. The heart is the seat of man’s moral and spiritual life, and includes his emotions, his thoughts, and his will.
In other words, you have to keep our mental, emotional, and moral activity free from the anxiety and agitation that robs peace from your life.
The Amplified says, “Do not let your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid. [Stop allowing yourselves to be agitated and disturbed; and do not permit yourselves to be fearful and intimidated and cowardly and unsettled.]”
To walk in an uninterrupted state of peace, control must be maintained over your emotions and your thoughts by refusing to allow yourself to be continuously agitated and disturbed about the circumstances of life. You must take charge over your emotional and thought life.
The person that prays for peace and at the same time continues to be anxious and troubled in his mind will experience very little of the peace of God. Peace will be a short-lived and ephemeral experience.
But when we discipline ourselves to think the “thoughts of God” and keep our mind focused upon the Lord, peace will be a constant companion.
